Ever watched a movie and thought, “I belong there”?

You’re not alone. Whether it’s stepping into the drawing room at Downton Abbey, solving a mystery on Baker Street, or dodging dragons in Wales, film and TV locations have a way of making us wish we lived in the worlds we see on screen.

The good news? You can step into those worlds—without needing a Time-Turner, a TARDIS, or a dragon of your own. (Sorry, House of the Dragon fans.)

Our Behind the Screen: England & Wales Edition tour is your all-access pass to some of the most famous filming locations across the UK. Ten days. Nine nights. Countless movie moments waiting to be re-lived (but more on that later).

The Rise of Screen Tourism: Because Normal Vacations Are Boring

Once upon a time, people traveled for history, nature, or (ugh) relaxation. But now? More and more travelers are choosing their destinations based on their favorite films and TV shows. Why sip a cocktail on a beach when you can stand in the exact spot where Colin Firth brooded as Mr. Darcy?

England and Wales have played starring roles in everything from magical fantasy worlds to gritty period dramas, making them the perfect playground for movie and TV fans.

‘Behind the Screen: England & Wales Edition’—Your Backstage Pass to your Favourite Scenes

This isn’t just another sightseeing tour. This is a VIP experience for film lovers who want to do more than just take a selfie and move on.

London: Walk through Sherlock’s stomping grounds, find yourself on the set of James Bond films, or visit the sites where superheroes (and supervillains) have clashed on screen.

The Cotswolds & Bath: Ever dreamed of wandering through Downton Abbey’s grand estate? Or standing in the middle of a Bridgerton-esque Regency-era square? We’ve got you covered.

Wales: Dragons? Check. Epic battles? Check. Doctor Who timey-wimey adventures? Double-check. Wales has served as the backdrop for everything from House of the Dragon, and Merlin to His Dark Materials—and yes, we’re taking you to the best of it.

Exclusive Experiences: Forget generic group tours—our trip includes expert guides, behind-the-scenes stories, and boutique stays where you can channel your inner movie star.

VisitBritain’s Must-See Film Locations: Because We’re Not the Only Ones Who Think This Is Cool

If you’re planning a DIY film-inspired getaway, VisitBritain has some recommendations—many of which are already on our tour! Here’s a sneak peek:

🎥 Raglan Castle (Monmouthshire)– BBC's Merlin didn't use a wand, but certainly made a lot of screen magic at Raglan Castle. This 15th century ruin was featured multiple times in the series and is an excellent example of Welsh castle architecture.

🎥 Lacock Abbey (Wiltshire) – The abbey served as Hogwarts’ interiors, while the nearby village popped up in Downton Abbey, The Hollow Crown, and Pride & Prejudice. Basically, if you’re a fan of British period dramas, you’ll want to be here.

🎥 Highclere Castle (Hampshire)Downton Abbey fans, this one’s for you. The real-life Downton estate is just as grand in person, and yes, you can walk through the same halls as Lady Mary (with slightly fewer dramatic stares into the distance).

🎥 The Old Royal Naval College (London) – If you’ve seen Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Les Misérables, The Crown, or about 50 other productions, you’ve seen this place. But nothing beats experiencing it in person.

🎥 Gloucester Cathedral (Gloucestershire)Harry Potter fans, here’s another must-visit. The cathedral’s stunning cloisters served as Hogwarts’ hallways, so if you suddenly feel the urge to whisper “Wingardium Leviosa”, we won’t judge.

Why You Need to Join This Tour (Besides the Fact That It’s Awesome)

Sure, you could rent a car, Google these locations, and drive yourself around England and Wales… but where’s the fun in that?

No stress, just fun. We handle all the planning, transportation, and logistics. You just show up and live your best movie-loving life.

You get the inside scoop. Our expert guides know all the behind-the-scenes details that even the most dedicated fans might not know.

It’s more than just sightseeing. We don’t just drop you off at a location and say, “Take a picture.” We make sure you experience it—whether that’s through re-enacting scenes, learning local filming secrets, or simply soaking up the atmosphere.

The hotels are actually nice. No dodgy motels here—we’re talking charming boutique hotels that match the aesthetic of your trip.

Book Your Spot (Before the Sorting Hat Puts You in the House of Regret)

If you love something that your family and friends just don't understand, travel with people who get it.

When you meet someone else who likes the same thing you do, you just click, especially if that thing isn’t mainstream.

Many types of group travel focus on the chosen destination and travel style as the factor that connects the members of the group. It is great that everyone on the bus or train wanted to visit Italy, but that usually isn’t enough to forge a community and lifelong connections.

1. No Need to Hide Your Weird

For those of us who consider ourselves Geeks and have a passion for specific entertainment, content, and collectibles, finding other people who get it without having to explain, is truly magical. There is an understanding, a familiarity, and even jargon specific to your niche or fandom that is already there with that other fan or Geek. You don’t have to tone down your excitement to touch the Outlander Standing Stones. You don’t have to stop humming Blood, Sweat, and Tears. You can dive into philosophical discussions around Studio Ghibli’s movies, or discuss the many ways to cook potatoes. Other Geeks just get it.

The barriers to self expression and identity fall away when you know you are travelling in a safe space to share your passion. Fandoms can be incredibly diverse and people who come from vastly different walks of life, generations, belief systems, and socio-economic up-bringing, can all love the same thing. A movie, artist, or book can (and does) connect people across differences that may not have been bridged otherwise.

2. Go to the Places You Really Want to Go

Visiting places such as New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, or the UK and Ireland are lifelong dreams for many people. When you travel on a generic guided tour, or with people who don’t want to go to your places of interest (Studio Ghibli, Lallybroch, or the BTS Bus Stop) it can be frustrating and disappointing to be so close and not see it. Plan a trip around the places that are specific to your fandom so you can have an experience that is exciting and meaningful to you.

The tourist boards of popular filming locations (Tourism Ireland and The Korean Tourism Organization, for example), have really jumped in on the massive trend of SetJetting – tourists visiting filming locations they have seen on TV and in movies – particularly on Netflix. They provide resources, both physical and online, to help you navigate your way between sites and get the most out of your trip.

3. Let Somebody Else take care of the details

Not great at planning, or don’t have time? There are professional travel consultants who can help (some of us are also geeks). Finding the right tour is vitally important and there are many different styles and factors to consider. If a tour doesn’t exist for your fandom, travel agents can help create one and market it to fill the group. With the planning out of the way, you can focus on the experience.

Travelling with your fandom, with people who are as passionate as you are, to a place you are passionate about, can be life changing.

Group travel allows you to take it all in, forge new friendships, and immerse yourself in the destination without needing to think about the logistical details. It is all taken care of so you can create memories without hassle or stress.

Finding a community of like-minded people to share experiences with is fundamental to the human experience. Love what you love, and find other people who love it too, and then get out there and see it.
